MOUNTAIN VIEW, California — October 23, 2026. This original California58 Local report is based on an identified public agency record. Proposals, meeting notices, campaign material and estimated outcomes are carefully distinguished from decisions and certified results.
How many council seats?
Mountain View’s 2026 general municipal election is scheduled for November 3. The city’s council consists of seven members elected at large, and the official 2026 council election documents identify three seats. At-large elections differ from district elections: eligible voters across Mountain View may vote for council candidates under the rules on the official ballot.
How long are terms?
Councilmembers serve staggered four-year terms and are limited to two consecutive full terms under the city’s charter. The council chooses its Mayor and Vice Mayor annually; voters do not separately elect a Mountain View mayor on this ballot. City Council candidates were eligible to seek nomination during the July 13–August 7 period.
What other local issues appear?
The municipal election page also identifies two propositions, including a transient occupancy tax increase proposal and a charter amendment measure. Each has its own legal text, analyses and voter arguments. Do not infer that a person’s support for a council candidate indicates a position on either measure.
